On the subject of Devs playing the game.
There are certainly STRICT rules as to what they can and can't do while "playing".
And I have faith that they are upheld. I also know that the devs would be FOOLS to start telling people their character names. Because that player would never have peace again. Every kill would be petitioned and every loss would be harped on the forums.
Are there devs in BOB? Probably. There is probably a dev in every one of the big alliances. BOB, D2, Goons, etc etc etc. Does that account for BOB being pretty good at what they do? No. In fact, BOB being a good alliance has alot to do with BLOBs. (and I'm sure alot of hard work by some people in BOB)
But there has never been and never will be an event where a Dev will use their magic uber player powers (who even thinks theres a dev client with uber powers?) to swing the outcome of a major war.
And I say this after watching GURISTA DREADS (yeah, you know, like dreadnaughts) take down a POS my former alliance had put up. No one seriously believed that was a dev cheating, we all knew it was a player/dev event and we welcomed it, even if we were on the wrong side of it. (there were in fact an entire fleet of dreads, only a few of which were GURISTA, the rest being players)
Can we put this to bed yet? Seriously, it's getting old.
OH, and for the record, you actually have to do something to be considered an succsesful alliance. BOB has done a whole lot of not much AFAIK. OH sure, they took a station in ec once. (with over 500 ships) And they control a decent amount of space. But that means nothing unless someone is actually trying to take it.
People are way more afraid of what they think a big alliance can do. Rather than anything any of these big boys have ever actually done. A week of safe spotting with 500 other buddies is hardly a major accomplishment.
Now, get D2 and BOB into a full on war to the finish, THAT would be impressive. And the winner crowned as the most impressive alliance of all time.
